Hatch Space is a non-profit, artist run studio and project space based on Deptford’s Creekside. Having opened our doors in December 2010 we have hosted a range of screenings, experimental performance nights and exhibitions all hailing the work of both national and international emerging artists, with an emphasis on the experimental and the new.
Our central space, housed within the industrial surrounds of Faircharm Trading estate provides a refreshing balance of unpretentious project space and a professional white cube (if the two can co-exist) to our exhibitors. Our programme is a mix of in-house curation and an open proposal format; which aims to both bridge the gap between disciplines and discuss the implications of our subject matter beyond the field of fine art as well giving students and new graduates their first opportunities to show outside of a university setting.
Our studios provide not only affordable space within a growing and thriving art community (supported by the South London Art Map), but a real chance to collaborate with internal and visiting artists and contribute to the programme, providing opportunity to both develop and promote work under the same roof.
This studio/gallery format has attracted work in its rawest stages giving us the opportunity to show pieces that otherwise may not get a platform.
